About This Treatment

What Is Chemical Peel?

A chemical peel is a skin resurfacing treatment that uses a chemical solution to remove the outer layer of skin. The solution helps exfoliate dead skin cells and stimulate new skin growth underneath, leaving you with a smoother, more even complexion and improved skin texture.

At Boujee Nurse, we use the Prodigy Peel Pro System, a medical-grade skin peel available in two formulations. The type of peel you receive depends on your skin type, your concerns, and the chemical peel results you are looking for.

What Does Chemical PeelTreat?

Chemical peels treat a wide range of concerns. Your provider can adjust the depth, active ingredient, and chemical peel solution used so each treatment is best when customized to your skin care needs. Common concerns include:

  • Fine lines and wrinkles
  • Acne and acne scars
  • Uneven skin tone and pigmentation
  • Age spots and sun damage
  • Rough or dull skin texture
  • Mild to moderate scarring

Ideal Candidates

Am I a Good Candidate?

Chemical peel candidates include anyone looking to improve overall skin health without surgery. A peel is ideal if you want to address uneven skin tone, acne scars, or visible signs of aging and are willing to follow care instructions.

You may be a good candidate for a chemical peel if you:

  • Have acne, scarring, or rough skin texture you want to smooth
  • Notice age spots, pigmentation, or severe sun damage
  • Want to brighten dull or damaged skin
  • Are exploring a non-invasive alternative to chemical peels like laser treatments or microneedling
  • Want a treatment with little to no downtime (for lighter peels)

Patients who are pregnant, breastfeeding, have active cold sores, or sunburn should wait before booking. If you have a history of keloid scarring or have used Accutane within the past year, let your provider know during your consultation.

Your Experience

What to Expect

Your visit begins with a chemical peel consultation where your provider reviews your skin, concerns, and goals. Together, you will decide on the right type of peel and formulation for your skin.

Your provider starts by prepping the skin and cleansing the treatment area. Then the chemical solution is applied. You may feel a slight tingle or warming sensation as the solution works to penetrate the surface layer of skin.

Prodigy Peel P2 is a medium depth peel with a milder formulation that uses a salicylic acid booster to target fine lines, uneven skin tone, and blemish-prone skin. This peel is suitable for all skin types, including darker Fitzpatrick types. Superficial peels are typically quick and come with little to no downtime, making P2 a great choice for patients new to chemical peels.

Prodigy Peel P3 is a superficial to medium-depth chemical peel that combines resorcinol, lactic acid, and salicylic acid with a potent booster. This deeper peel targets skin laxity, acne, hyperpigmentation, and wrinkles. It is best suited for Fitzpatrick types I through III and delivers more dramatic results.

Both formulations work by applying a chemical solution that causes your skin to exfoliate, helping remove the outer layer of damaged skin cells. Deep chemical peels penetrate multiple layers of skin for more significant concerns like severe sun damage. Recovery time for medium and deep peels is longer, but chemical peel results are typically more noticeable.

After the peel, your skin may feel tight. You may notice peeling over the next one to two weeks as damaged skin cells shed and new skin appears. Most patients see improvement after one session, and results continue as collagen production increases. The Prodigy Peel Pro System is recommended in a series of three treatments spaced four to eight weeks apart.

Care Instructions

Pre & Post Care

Before your appointment:

Stop using retinoids, exfoliating products, and waxing at least one week before treatment. Avoid neurotoxin treatments for 48 hours before your peel. Refrain from microneedling, laser hair removal, and other aggressive skincare treatments for two to four weeks before the appointment. Arrive with clean skin. If you have a history of cold sores, talk to your provider about antiviral medication.

After your treatment:

For the first six days, gently cleanse with a mild cleanser, apply a recovery balm, and wear SPF 30 or higher to protect your skin. Avoid unprotected sun exposure, exercise, and makeup for five to seven days. After two weeks, gradually reintroduce your regular skincare products. Moderate peeling or flaking is normal for three to seven days.

Common Questions

Chemical PeelFAQ

Chemical peels use a chemical solution with active ingredients like salicylic acid, glycolic acid, lactic acid, or TCA. The solution works to cause your skin to exfoliate and peel, helping remove the outer layer of damaged skin cells and revealing new skin underneath. Superficial peels target the outermost layer, while deeper peel options penetrate further. Over time, peels may also stimulate collagen production for firmer, smoother skin.

At Boujee Nurse, we offer the Prodigy Peel Pro System in two formulations. The P2 is a medium depth peel with a salicylic acid booster, ideal for fine lines, uneven skin tone, and blemish-prone skin. It works well for all skin types. The P3 uses resorcinol, lactic acid, and salicylic acid for a deeper peel that addresses acne, hyperpigmentation, and wrinkles. An alpha hydroxy acid peel like glycolic acid is also commonly used for lighter concerns. During your consultation, your provider will recommend the peel that fits your skin care needs.

Peels help smooth rough skin texture, reduce fine lines, fade acne scars and age spots, and improve overall skin tone. They also remove dead skin, unclog pores, and stimulate the growth of healthy skin cells. With regular treatments, patients typically notice brighter, more even skin.

Yes, but you will need to stop using tretinoin and similar retinoids at least one week before your peel. Patients with a history of cold sores should take antiviral medication beforehand. During your consultation, your provider will review your skincare routine and medical history to confirm a chemical peel is safe for you.

Chemical peels can soften fine lines by removing the surface layer of skin and encouraging collagen production. Medium and deep peels deliver more visible results for deeper lines. Your provider may suggest combining peels with dermal fillers or neurotoxins for a complete rejuvenation plan.

Chemical peels are clinically shown to improve the appearance of actinic keratosis, rough patches, and other surface-level concerns. A medium or deeper peel can remove the outer layer of thickened skin and encourage healthy cell turnover. Some forms of keratosis require medical evaluation, so your provider will let you know the right approach.

Many patients see a noticeable difference after one treatment, especially with medium depth peels. The Prodigy Peel Pro System is recommended in a series of three treatments spaced four to eight weeks apart for the best long-term results. Your provider will create a customized treatment plan based on your skin type and goals.

Chemical peels are safe when performed by a trained provider. Superficial peels come with little to no downtime and mild redness that fades quickly. Medium and deep peels involve more recovery time, and your skin may feel tight with peeling that lasts several days. It is important to protect your skin with SPF and avoid sun exposure during healing. At Boujee Nurse, safety is always our top priority.
