What Is Sculptra?
Sculptra is an FDA-approved injectable treatment and collagen stimulator, also known as a biostimulator. The active ingredient is poly-l-lactic acid (PLLA), a biocompatible material that is gradually absorbed by the body over time. Unlike a traditional dermal filler, Sculptra does not simply add volume on the surface.
Instead, Sculptra is an injectable designed to work at a deeper level. It is injected into the dermis to stimulate your body’s natural collagen production. As your skin produces new collagen, it rebuilds the underlying structure for results that look and feel natural.
What Does SculptraTreat?
Sculptra is designed to address volume loss and help you restore volume for a more youthful appearance. By replenishing collagen where your body has lost it, this injectable treatment helps smooth lines and wrinkles while adding volume to areas of the face that have become hollow.
Common concerns Sculptra can treat include:
- Fine lines and deep folds, including nasolabial folds
- Hollow or sunken temples
- Loss of fullness along the jawline and cheeks
- Facial contour irregularities
- Overall facial volume loss that affects your profile

Am I a Good Candidate?
You may be a good candidate for Sculptra injections if you notice signs of facial volume loss and want gradual, natural-looking correction. The best way to find out is a consultation with our team. A strong candidate typically:
- Is an adult in good overall health
- Wants to stimulate collagen rather than rely on traditional filler alone
- Is looking for long-lasting results that build over time
- Prefers a non-surgical approach over cosmetic surgery
- Has realistic cosmetic goals for volume restoration
Sculptra may not be right for patients with a history of keloid scarring, active skin infections in the treated area, or those who are pregnant or breastfeeding. Our nurses review your medical history at your first treatment visit to make sure Sculptra is a safe option for you.
What to Expect
Your Sculptra treatment begins with a one-on-one consultation. Your injector reviews your medical history, evaluates your concerns, and creates a customized treatment plan built around your goals.
On treatment day, your nurse cleans the injection sites and applies a topical numbing cream or topical anesthetic for comfort. Sculptra is then injected using small, precise placements across the target areas. Most sessions take about 30 to 45 minutes. The number of vials per session depends on the area being treated and your overall plan.
After your session, you may experience mild swelling, redness, or bruising at the injection sites. Any side effects that occur are typically mild and resolve within a few days.
Sculptra results appear gradually as your body’s collagen rebuilds over the following weeks. Most patients need three to four sessions, spaced several weeks apart, for full correction.
Because Sculptra works by stimulating collagen rather than filling space, results develop naturally over a series of treatments.
Pre & Post Care
Before your appointment: Avoid NSAIDs (Aspirin, Advil, Ibuprofen), Ginkgo Biloba, garlic supplements, green tea, flax oil, cod liver oil, and vitamins A and E for one week before treatment. Taking Arnica tablets two to three days before can help reduce bruising. Skip alcohol 24 hours before your visit. Let your provider know about any history of cold sores or keloid scars.
After your treatment: Massage the treated area using topical arnica to support even distribution and collagen production. Follow the 5-5-5 rule: five-minute massages, five times per day, for five days. Then continue for five minutes twice daily for six weeks. Use Tylenol for tenderness. Avoid prolonged sun exposure, always apply SPF, and skip strenuous exercise for 24 hours. Wait at least four weeks before any laser or skin tightening treatments.

Sculptra works by using poly-l-lactic acid (PLLA), a biocompatible material injected beneath the skin. The PLLA microparticles stimulate collagen production deep within the dermis. Your body gradually absorbs the PLLA, but the new collagen it generates stays in place. This process helps restore lost volume, smooth wrinkles, and improve skin texture over time. Unlike traditional fillers, Sculptra encourages your body to rebuild collagen on its own for a natural, gradual improvement.
The 5 5 5 rule is a simple aftercare routine. After each session, you massage the treated area for five minutes, five times per day, for five days. This helps distribute the product evenly beneath the skin and supports uniform collagen growth. After those first five days, continue massaging for five minutes twice a day for six weeks. Following this routine is one of the most important steps for even, natural-looking results.
Sculptra results typically last two years or longer. Because the treatment works by stimulating your body to produce its own collagen, the improvements hold well over time. Results build gradually and continue to improve for several months after your final session. Some patients schedule a follow-up every one to two years to maintain your results. Your nurse will help you plan a timeline that works for your goals.
Sculptra is approved by the FDA and offers several benefits that set it apart from traditional dermal fillers. It stimulates your natural collagen production rather than simply filling space, so results look and feel like your own skin. Key benefits include: Gradual, natural-looking volume restoration. Long-lasting improvement (two years or more). Better skin texture and firmness over time. Can treat multiple areas of the face in one session. No significant downtime after treatment. The change is subtle and natural. Friends and family may notice you look refreshed without being able to pinpoint what changed.
Sculptra can be used to treat several areas of the face and body. On the face, popular areas include the cheeks, temples, jawline, chin, and nasolabial folds (the lines from the nose to the corners of the mouth). It works well wherever volume loss or deep lines have changed your appearance. For body treatments, Sculptra adds shape and fullness to the buttocks, offering a non-surgical option for patients who want more contour.
For many patients, Sculptra is a worthwhile investment in their confidence and appearance. While it requires multiple sessions, the results can last two years or more. That makes the overall value very competitive compared to traditional fillers that need refreshing every six to twelve months. Choosing a qualified, skilled injector is key to getting the best possible outcome from each vial. At Boujee Nurse, our team creates a customized treatment plan tailored to your goals and budget, so you know exactly what to expect before you begin.
Like most injectable treatments, Sculptra comes with some potential side effects. The most common side effects include mild swelling, redness, bruising, and tenderness at the injection sites. These typically resolve on their own within a few days. In rare cases, small bumps or nodules may form under the skin, which is why the 5-5-5 massage rule is so important. Our nurses go over every potential risk during your consultation so you feel fully informed.
Most patients benefit from a series of sessions spaced about four to six weeks apart. The exact number depends on the areas you want to treat, the degree of volume loss, and your overall goals. Your nurse will create a personalized plan during your consultation. Each session typically uses one to two vials, though larger areas may require more. Sculptra is injected gradually over multiple visits, so your results build naturally and allow for fine-tuning along the way.
