Care Instructions

Pre & Post Treatment Care

Your complete guide to preparing for and recovering from your treatments at Boujee Nurse. Follow these instructions for the best possible results.

Neurotoxins (Botox, Dysport, Jeuveau, Letybo)

Before Your Treatment

Arnica Montana tablets can be taken for three days before your appointment to minimize potential bruising. Topical Arnica can also be applied. To further reduce the risk of bruising, limit the consumption of alcohol and avoid blood-thinning medications such as fish oil, aspirin, and ibuprofen. If you are on prescribed medication, please consult your prescribing provider before discontinuing use.

After Your Treatment

Bruising is a potential side effect of injections and may occur. To minimize the risk of bruising and optimize results, avoid extreme heat or cold, strenuous exercise, and NSAIDS (Advil, Ibuprofen, Aspirin). Massaging the treated area, wearing tight headgear, or lying face down within the first four hours of your neurotoxin treatment increases the risk of the product migrating to undesired areas causing undesirable results. It’s suggested to wait four hours after the treatment for these activities while the product settles.

Dermal Filler: Restylane, Revanesse, & Juvederm products

Before Your Treatment

To minimize the risk of bruising, a potential side effect of injections, Boujee Nurse advises pretreating with Arnica Montana tablets and/or topical Arnica for 3-4 days before your treatment. It’s important to avoid blood thinners such as fish oil, garlic, and NSAIDs (Advil, Ibuprofen, Aspirin, etc). However, please do not discontinue any prescribed medications unless you have consulted with your prescribing physician first. Please note that dermal filler cannot be administered if you have active lesions or wounds, such as a herpes outbreak. If you are prone to cold sores, pretreat with Valtrex or Acyclovir for 3-4 days prior to your injection and continue for 2-3 days afterward. Additionally, dermal filler treatments should not be performed within 2 weeks of dental work, dental cleanings, any type of infections, or vaccinations.

After Your Treatment

Following your dermal filler treatment, continue using Arnica and limit excess sodium intake while increasing water intake to aid in recovery. We recommend taking an antihistamine like Zyrtec or Benadryl, to help with any swelling. It’s important to avoid massaging the injected area, as this can disrupt the filler placement. Bruising and tenderness are common and typically resolve within a few days. Keep in mind that it takes 2 to 4 weeks for the filler to fully settle and for optimal results to be visible. If you experience worsening pain, skin discoloration, blistering, fever, or chills, please contact us at (303) 900 – 8751 immediately.

PRP Facial (includes PRP/tox facial)

Before Your Treatment

Prior to your treatment, please ensure that your skin and/or hair is clean. Avoid using makeup, lotions, oils, gels, or any other skincare products on the treated area. Stop the use of Retin-A, Retinols, exfoliating products, and waxing at least 3-5 days prior to and after the treatment. Refrain from chemical peels, laser treatments, and microblading for 2-4 weeks before the appointment. Patients with a history of herpes or cold sores should consider taking antiviral medication as a preventative measure. Please note that the treatment will not be performed if you have active cold sores, sunburn, or have used antibiotics in the previous 2 weeks.

After Your Treatment

Refrain from washing the treated area for a full 24 hours. Avoid engaging in any exercise or sitting in a sauna or steam room during this time period. We recommend using gentle cleansers, moisturizers, vitamin C, and SPF as part of your post-care routine. If your skin feels dry, moisturizer and SPF will help.

Avoid snuggling with pets on the day of the treatment to prevent contamination of the open microchannels on your skin. Maintain clean habits, including using clean pillowcases and avoiding touching your skin unnecessarily to reduce the risk of infection. Refrain from wearing makeup or hats to avoid introducing bacteria into the microchannels. If you experience any pain or discomfort at the treatment site, please contact our practice at (303) 900 – 8751 for assistance.

Sculptra

Before Your Treatment

To decrease the risk of bruising, avoid the use of Aspirin, NSAIDS (Aspirin, Advil, Ibuprofen), Ginko Biloba, Garlic Supplements, Green Tea, Flax Oil, Cod Liver Oil, Vitamins A and E, and essential fatty acids for up to 1 week before and after treatment. Taking Arnica tablets 2-3 days before treatment can also reduce the potential for bruising. Additionally, refrain from consuming alcoholic beverages 24 hours prior to your appointment. It’s also crucial to avoid using products that may irritate the skin for 2-3 days before and after treatment, such as tretinoin/retin-a, glycolic acid, benzoyl peroxide, and hydroquinone. Inform your provider of any history of cold sores, keloid scars, or adverse reactions to sutures. If you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or allergic to any of the treatment’s ingredients, abstain from using the aforementioned products. Make sure to consult your provider if you have any questions or concerns prior to treatment.

After Your Treatment

Following your Sculptra treatment, proper aftercare is essential for optimal results. Massaging the treated area is crucial to ensure even distribution of the product and promote uniform collagen production. We recommend using topical arnica for massages, performing 5-minute massages, 5 times a day over the first 5 days, and then reducing to 5 minutes twice daily for the next 6 weeks post-treatment. If you experience mild tenderness or discomfort, you may take Acetaminophen/Tylenol. It’s important to avoid prolonged UV exposure until any redness or swelling has subsided, and always apply SPF. Refrain from engaging in strenuous exercise for the first 24 hours following treatment, although you may resume normal activities immediately. Avoid undergoing laser, IPL, or skin tightening treatments in the treated area for at least 4 weeks post-treatment to ensure optimal healing and results.

Moxi Laser

Before Your Treatment

Avoid direct sun exposure and wear SPF 30+ sunscreen for at least 2 weeks prior to treatment. Discontinue retinoids (Retin-A, retinol products) 3–5 days before your appointment. Avoid chemical peels, microdermabrasion, and other exfoliating treatments for at least 2 weeks prior. Do not wax the treatment area for at least 1 week before. Arrive to your appointment with clean skin — no makeup, lotions, or skincare products on the treatment area. If you have a history of cold sores, inform your provider as antiviral medication may be recommended.

After Your Treatment

What to Expect: Redness is normal and expected, and can persist for up to 7 days depending on the intensity of the treatment. The treated area may feel extremely warm for up to 24 hours. On day 2, you will see small dark spots start to form called MENDs (Microscopic Epidermal Necrotic Debris). During this time, your skin will be very dry and feel like sandpaper before flaking and peeling off. Keep your skin well moisturized to support the healing process. Do not pick or scratch your skin. Swelling can occur and is typically expected immediately after treatment and can last 2–4 days. Use of a cold compress will help to relieve the swelling. Makeup can be worn 24 hours after your treatment if desired.

Skincare Instructions: Cleanse with a gentle cleanser 2x daily. Days 1–2: Apply a light moisturizer 2x daily (or as needed). Days 3–7: Apply a heavy moisturizer 2x daily (or as needed). Wear SPF 30+ and avoid direct sun exposure for 14 days. Though not advised, makeup can be worn 24 hours after treatment. Follow your personalized aftercare plan until the skin is completely healed — typically one week after the treatment.

Do’s: Cleanse skin with a gentle cleanser 2x a day. Wear sunscreen SPF 30+ with UVA/UVB protection and a wide-brimmed hat — avoid direct sun exposure for 14 days. Stay hydrated and drink lots of water.

Don’ts: Do not rub, scrub, scratch, pick, shave, exfoliate, or use exfoliants or actives for at least 1 week. Do not engage in strenuous exercise or sweating for 48 hours. Do not use too hot or cold water or be exposed to excessive heat like saunas or sun for 72 hours.

Healing Timeline: Days 1–2: Swelling and redness. Days 3–4: MENDs come to the surface, sandpaper effect. Days 5–7: MENDs slough off to reveal radiant skin.

Pro Tips: Sleep elevated during swelling. ALWAYS wear SPF. If the treated area is especially warm within the first 12 hours after the treatment, a cold compress or ice pack can be used to provide comfort. In rare cases, oral pain relievers (i.e. Extra Strength Tylenol or Advil) may be used.

Chemical peel

Before Your Treatment

48 hours before your scheduled appointment, refrain from undergoing neurotoxin treatments to ensure compatibility with the peel process. One week prior to your treatment, avoid waxing, laser hair removal, hair removal creams, and topical antibiotics. Steer clear of exfoliating products for facial treatments that may cause irritation, including dermaplaning and microdermabrasion. Cease the use of Retin-A, Retinols, and any products containing these ingredients. Additionally, within the 2-4 weeks leading up to your appointment, avoid chemical peels, microneedling, laser treatments, and microblading to prevent potential complications. Patients who have been on Accutane or undergone radiation therapy within the past year are advised against receiving the Prodigy Peel Pro System treatment. Certain conditions exclude individuals from undergoing the treatment, including pregnancy, breastfeeding, the presence of active cold sores, open wounds, sunburn, or excessively sensitive skin. Allergies to aspirin or salicylic acids, as well as vitiligo, also warrant precaution. Patients with autoimmune diseases should consult with their practitioner prior to scheduling the treatment to ensure suitability and safety.

After Your Treatment

For the first 6 days post-treatment, Boujee Nurse recommends a specific skincare regimen to nurture your skin. Begin by gently cleansing your skin with iS Clinical Cleansing Complex to remove impurities and promote a clean canvas for healing. Follow this with the application of Sheald Recovery Balm to soothe and protect the skin. Finish off by applying Extreme Protect SPF 30-40 to shield your skin from harmful UV rays, and remember to avoid sun exposure as much as possible during this time. Reapply SPF throughout the day as needed. At night, after cleansing your skin, apply Sheald Recovery Balm to support overnight healing and hydration.

From day 7 to day 14 post-treatment, Boujee Nurse recommends continuing Cleansing Complex, Shield Recovery, and Extreme Protect SPF along with Pro Heal Serum Advance to help with inflammation and free radical defense.

From day 14 and on, you can gradually reintegrate your regular skincare routine. Consult with your provider for specific instructions and recommended skincare products to promote optimal skin health and healing during this phase. It’s expected to experience moderate peeling or flaking for 3-7 days following the procedure, with some mild peeling or flaking possible up to 10 days post-treatment. Refrain from washing the treated area until the evening of your treatment day. Avoid strenuous exercise, strength training, or the application of makeup for 5-7 days following the treatment. Additionally, try to avoid sleeping with pets in bed for at least 24 hours and use a clean pillowcase to minimize the risk of infection. If you experience any pain or discomfort, please contact the practice at (303) 900 -8751 for assistance. The Prodigy Peel Pro System is recommended in a series of 3 treatments and can be administered every 4 to 8 weeks depending on the state of skin to maintain and enhance your skin’s health and appearance.
