What Is Dermal Filler?
Dermal fillers are injectable gels placed under the skin to add volume, smooth wrinkles, and enhance facial contours. Most of the fillers we use are hyaluronic acid fillers, which contain a sugar your body already makes. Your injector places the gel in targeted areas to plump, lift, and refine specific areas of the face.
At our Denver medical spa, we offer FDA-approved Restylane, Revanesse, and Evolysse products. Each type of filler has unique properties, so the filler used depends on your goals, facial anatomy, and the treatment area.
What Does Dermal FillerTreat?
Dermal fillers are used to refresh the face without surgery. This minimally invasive treatment can address many signs of aging and volume loss in a single visit. A dermal filler treatment is especially helpful for:
- Nasolabial folds and marionette lines
- Thin lips, lip enhancement, and lip augmentation
- Flat cheeks that need to restore lost volume
- A weak chin or soft jawline
- Under-eye hollows and lines around the eyes
- Frown lines and deeper facial wrinkles
- Crow's feet and fine lines near the mouth
- Overall facial balancing to bring harmony to your facial features

Am I a Good Candidate?
You may be a good candidate for dermal fillers if you want to restore volume, soften wrinkles and fine lines, or enhance facial features without a surgical procedure. Most healthy adults qualify. A candidate for dermal fillers often has one or more of these concerns:
- Flattening of the cheeks, temples, or mid-face
- Early signs of aging around the mouth, eyes, and jawline
- Lips that feel thin, uneven, or have lost shape over time
- A jawline or chin that needs more definition
- Facial volume loss from weight change or natural aging
- A desire to look refreshed before a big event
Dermal fillers may not be right for you if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, have certain autoimmune conditions, have an active skin infection in the treatment area, or have a known allergy to filler ingredients. If you are unsure, our team will always be honest at your visit.
If filler is not the best next step, we will suggest a different plan, such as a neurotoxin, Sculptra, or a medical-grade skincare routine. Safety comes first, every single time.
What to Expect
Your visit begins with a one-on-one consultation. Your nurse reviews your health history, listens to your goals, and studies your facial anatomy to recommend the right filler type, product, and volume. This is the time to ask any question, from the cost of dermal fillers to how the product feels under the skin. We walk you through the full plan, including the total price of your session, before you commit to anything.
Before any injection, your nurse applies numbing cream to the treatment area for comfort. Most hyaluronic acid fillers also contain lidocaine, which helps reduce any discomfort during the injection process. Most patients describe the sensation as mild pressure or a quick pinch rather than real pain.
The actual appointment is quick. A filler session usually takes 30 to 60 minutes depending on how many areas of the face you want to treat. Dermal fillers are a minimally invasive option with little to no true downtime. You may leave with small bumps, mild swelling, or light bruising that fade over several days. Makeup can be worn the next day.
Final results are visible within about two weeks as the filler settles into the tissue. Many patients see an immediate lift in the mirror before they even leave the spa. Your nurse will also share a follow-up and maintenance schedule so you know what to expect from your filler results over time.
Pre & Post Care
Before your appointment: To lower the risk of bruising, take Arnica Montana for three to four days before your visit. Avoid blood thinners like fish oil, garlic, Advil, Aspirin, and ibuprofen, but do not stop any prescribed medication without talking to your prescribing doctor. Skip dental work, dental cleanings, and vaccinations for two weeks before your treatment. If you are prone to cold sores, pretreat with Valtrex or Acyclovir so you can safely inject around the mouth area.
After your treatment: Continue Arnica, drink plenty of water, and limit salty foods to help any swelling pass quickly. An antihistamine such as Zyrtec or Benadryl can also help. Do not massage the treatment area, as this can move the product. Bruising and tenderness usually clear within a few days, and full results appear in two to four weeks. Call us right away at (303) 900-8751 if you notice unusual pain, skin color change, blistering, fever, or chills.

Dermal fillers are gel injectables placed under the skin to restore volume, smooth wrinkles, and enhance facial contours. Most are made of hyaluronic acid, a sugar your body already makes, which attracts water and adds fullness of your face. The filler sits in the tissue, lifts the area from below, and gradually breaks down over many months. Your injector chooses the product and depth based on the treatment area and your goals. Different fillers are formulated for different jobs, from subtle lip work to deeper structural support in the cheeks, which is why a custom plan matters.
Filler longevity depends on the product, the area treated, and your own metabolism. In general, lip filler lasts six to twelve months, while thicker products placed in the cheeks, chin, or jawline can last one to two years. Areas with more movement, like the mouth, tend to break down filler faster. Regular touch-ups help you maintain smooth, natural-looking results between full treatments. Your injector will recommend a personal timeline at your consultation so you know what to plan for.
Most healthy adults who want to rejuvenate their look without surgery are a good candidate for dermal filler. You should be in good general health, have realistic goals, and be willing to follow pre and post care. Fillers are not recommended if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, have certain autoimmune conditions, or have an active infection near the treatment area. A consultation with a trained injector is the best way to find out if filler is right for you. We also welcome patients who have never had injectables before and want to start slow.
FDA-approved dermal fillers have a strong safety record when placed by a skilled injector. Common side effects include bruising, swelling, tenderness, and small bumps that resolve within a week or two. Rare but serious risks include infection, allergic reaction, or vascular issues. Choosing an experienced nurse injector or facial plastic surgeon with deep knowledge of facial anatomy greatly reduces these risks. At Boujee Nurse, we review every risk with you at your consultation and adjust the plan if anything changes.
Botox is a neurotoxin that relaxes muscles to soften dynamic wrinkles like frown lines and crow's feet. Dermal fillers add volume, plump thin areas, and smooth static lines that sit at rest. Many patients use both: Botox for expression lines and filler for shape and contour. The two treatments work well together as part of a larger plan for facial rejuvenation procedures. Your injector can recommend the right mix at your visit so you get balanced results.
Recovery is easy for most people. You can return to work and daily activities right away. Expect mild swelling, possible bruising, and tenderness at the injection sites for a few days. Avoid hard exercise, heat, and alcohol for 24 hours, and skip massaging the area so the product can settle. Full results appear in about two weeks. Most patients feel ready to go out and take photos within a day or two.
The main downsides are temporary side effects and cost. You may have short-term swelling, bruising, or small lumps that fade within days. The total price of filler can add up since quality products and skilled injection take real investment. Over-filling is a risk if you see an inexperienced provider, which is why we take a conservative, safety-first approach at our spa in Denver. Our nurses build a plan that protects your long-term facial features and avoids the overdone look.
Perioral lines are the fine vertical lines around the mouth. The best filler for this area depends on how deep the lines are and the pout of the lips you want. A soft, flexible hyaluronic acid filler is usually placed in small amounts to smooth the lines without stiffness. In some cases, a touch of Botox is added nearby to relax the muscle pull. We will map out the right plan for your mouth area at your consultation so you get smooth, natural-looking results that fillers can help deliver.
