What Is PRP Hair Treatment?
PRP stands for platelet-rich plasma. It is a treatment that uses a concentrated sample from the patient's blood to support hair restoration. A small amount of blood is drawn, placed in a centrifuge to separate the platelet-rich layer, and then injected into the scalp at the treatment area.
The growth factors present in PRP stimulate dormant hair follicles and encourage new hair growth. PRP is an excellent choice for patients looking for a science-backed approach to hair thinning.
What Does PRP Hair TreatmentTreat?
PRP therapy delivers beneficial growth factors directly to the scalp to rejuvenate weakened hair follicles. Common concerns this treatment can help with include:
- Androgenetic alopecia (pattern hair loss in men and women)
- Thinning hair along the hairline or crown
- Early signs of hair loss
- Weak or thin hair shaft quality
- Slowed hair growth

Good candidates for PRP are patients in the early to moderate stages of hair loss. PRP injections for hair work best when hair follicles are still present but have become thin or dormant. If you notice your hair is not as thick as it used to be or you are seeing more scalp, PRP may be a strong fit.
You may be a good candidate if you:
- Are experiencing hair thinning or gradual hair loss
- Want a non-surgical treatment option
- Prefer a natural approach that works with your body's natural healing process
- Are in good overall health
PRP is not recommended for patients with active scalp infections, certain blood disorders, or those on blood-thinning medications. During your consultation, your provider will evaluate your concerns, review your health history, and create a customized treatment plan.
What to Expect
Here's what you can expect during your PRP hair restoration appointment. The PRP treatment process is simple and can fit into your busy schedule.
Blood Draw
Your visit starts with a blood draw, similar to a routine blood test. A small amount of blood is collected from your arm.
Centrifuge Processing
The sample is then placed in a centrifuge. Using a centrifuge, the platelet-rich plasma is separated from red and white blood cells. This step concentrates the platelets and the growth factors that support PRP hair regrowth.
Injection
Your provider applies a numbing cream to the scalp for comfort. The PRP is then carefully injected into the treatment area where loss may be most noticeable. Most patients describe the process as painless or only mildly uncomfortable.
After Your Appointment
There is virtually no downtime. You may experience some mild tenderness at the injection sites, but most patients return to normal activities within a few hours. Results typically begin to appear after three to six months, with optimal results seen after a series of treatments. Most patients benefit from an initial series of three treatments spaced four to six weeks apart, followed by maintenance sessions every three to six months.
Pre & Post Care
Before your appointment:
Make sure your hair and scalp are clean. Avoid using lotions, oils, gels, or styling products on the treatment area.
After your treatment:
Do not wash the treated area for a full 24 hours. Avoid exercise, saunas, and steam rooms during this time. Use a clean pillowcase and try to avoid sleeping with pets in bed for at least 24 hours. If you experience any discomfort, contact us at (303) 900-8751.

Yes. PRP is clinically shown to support hair regrowth in patients with certain types of hair loss. The beneficial growth factors in your body's platelet-rich plasma stimulate dormant follicles and promote natural growth. Results vary, but many patients see a noticeable increase in the number of hairs and overall thickness after a series of PRP sessions.
Most adults experiencing hair thinning or early-stage hair loss may be good candidates. PRP works best when follicles are still present. Patients on blood-thinning medications or with active scalp conditions should discuss options during a consultation. Your provider will review your health history and determine if PRP is right for you.
Results from a series of three PRP treatments can last 12 to 18 months. To maintain results, most patients return for maintenance injections every three to six months. Your provider will recommend a schedule based on your individual response.
Clinical studies show that PRP therapy can increase hair density and thickness for many patients. While results depend on the type and stage of hair loss, PRP is one of the most effective non-surgical treatment options available. It is not a cure, but it is a proven way to slow loss and support new hair growth.
Most patients start with an initial series of three treatments, spaced about four to six weeks apart. After the initial series, maintenance sessions every three to six months help sustain results. Your provider will tailor your treatment plan during your consultation.
The benefits of PRP include natural hair regrowth, improved thickness, and a treatment that uses your body's own healing process. Because PRP comes from the patient's blood, there is virtually no risk of allergic reactions. The procedure is minimally invasive and the risk of bleeding or infection is very low. Side effects are typically mild and resolve quickly.
The cost of PRP hair treatment depends on the number of sessions and the size of the treatment area. New patients at Boujee Nurse receive a $100 credit toward their first treatment. We also offer financing options to make your hair restoration goals more accessible. For a personalized quote, schedule a consultation.
