What Is Kybella?
Kybella is an FDA-approved injectable treatment designed to reduce moderate to severe fat beneath the chin, commonly known as submental fullness or a double chin. The active ingredient is deoxycholic acid, a molecule your body makes naturally that aids in the breakdown and absorption of dietary fat.
When injected into the under-chin area, Kybella works to destroy fat cells so they can no longer store fat. Once those fat cells are destroyed, they do not come back. The result is a slimmer, more defined jawline without surgery.
What Does KybellaTreat?
Kybella is specifically designed to reduce submental fat, the pockets of fat that sit below the chin and along the jawline. This non-surgical double chin treatment is a strong option if you are dealing with:
- A double chin that does not respond to diet and exercise
- Excess fat under the chin that affects your profile
- Submental fullness that makes you feel self-conscious
- Unwanted fat in the under-chin area that hides your natural jawline
Kybella offers a non-surgical path to fat reduction that can help you achieve a more defined look and redefine your profile.

Am I a Good Candidate?
You may be a good candidate for Kybella if you have moderate to severe fat under the chin that does not improve with diet and exercise. The best way to determine if Kybella is right for you is a consultation with our board-certified team. A strong candidate typically:
- Is an adult in good overall health
- Has noticeable submental fat or fullness beneath the chin
- Wants a non-surgical alternative to liposuction for chin fat reduction
- Has realistic cosmetic goals for the chin area
- Does not have significant skin laxity that might need a different approach
Kybella may not be right for patients with certain medical conditions, active infections in the treatment area, or difficulty swallowing. Our nurses will review your medical history and discuss your goals at your first visit to make sure Kybella is a safe and effective option.
What to Expect
Your Kybella procedure starts with a one-on-one consultation. Your nurse reviews your medical history, studies the treated area, and creates a personalized treatment plan built around your needs and goals. This is the time to ask any questions you may have about the number of treatments or timeline for results.
On treatment day, your nurse cleans the under-chin area and may apply numbing cream or ice for comfort. Kybella injections are placed in a series of small injection points across the treatment area. Most sessions take about 15 to 20 minutes.
Patients can expect swelling in the first 72 hours. Bruising and tenderness are also common, but most people return to work the next day. Visible Kybella results typically appear about two months after each session. Most patients need two to four treatments spaced about one month apart to achieve their desired outcome.
Kybella enhances your profile over time as your body clears the destroyed cells. Once fat cells are destroyed, they are gone for good, so results are long-lasting as long as you are maintaining a stable weight.
Pre & Post Care
Before your appointment: Avoid NSAIDs (Aspirin, Advil, Ibuprofen), Ginkgo Biloba, garlic supplements, green tea, and fish oil for one week before treatment. Taking Arnica tablets two to three days before can help reduce bruising. Skip alcohol 24 hours before your appointment. Let your provider know about any history of cold sores or keloid scars.
After your treatment: Swelling usually peaks within 72 hours and can last up to 10 days. Avoid ibuprofen and continuous icing. Use Tylenol for comfort if needed. If you notice increasing heat, redness, or signs of infection, please contact us at (303) 900-8751. Full results take about two months to appear.

For many patients, Kybella is absolutely worth it. It is the only FDA-approved injectable that permanently destroys fat cells under the chin. Once those cells are gone, they cannot store fat again. Patients frustrated by a double chin that will not respond to diet and exercise often see the best results. A Kybella consultation at our Denver office is the best place to find out if it fits your goals.
Kybella results are considered permanent because destroyed fat cells do not regenerate. However, significant weight gain could lead to new fat deposits in the area. Maintaining a stable weight helps keep your results looking their best.
Kybella uses deoxycholic acid, a substance your body produces naturally, to break down fat cells. When injected into the fat beneath the chin, Kybella breaks down fat cells by disrupting the cell membrane. The body then clears the destroyed cells over time. This process leads to a noticeable reduction in fullness and a more defined profile.
Most patients need two to four sessions, spaced about one month apart. Some may need up to six depending on the amount of submental fat. Your nurse will map out the right number of treatments at your consultation based on your unique chin profile.
Common side effects include swelling, bruising, pain, numbness, and firmness in the treated area. Swelling is the most noticeable and can last up to 10 days. These effects are temporary. Rare side effects include nerve injury in the jaw or trouble swallowing. Our nurses review every risk before treatment so you feel fully informed.
